The small animal surgical referral service accepts both orthopaedic and soft tissue cases and is led by Dr Cat Arthurs who gained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2006 and Mrs Helen Pope who gained the same qualification in 2010.
For cranial cruciate ligament rupture we offer Tibial Tuberosity Advancement, Closing Tibial Wedge Ostectomies and lateral suture using Arthrex Fibrewire. For fracture repair we use AO/ASIF kit and IMEX external skeletal fixation. Other equipment includes digital imaging, ultrasound, 4mm endoscope, paediatric bronchoscope for rhinoscopy and a 2.4mm arthroscope. Laparoscopy is available for exploratory laparotomy and ovariectomy. A film reading service for orthopaedic cases is also available.
Towcester Veterinary Centre is an RCVS Tier 3 accredited practice and a member of the British Small Animal Hospitals Association. Our team of dedicated night nurses ensure the best care for our hospitalised patients.
All our orthopaedic patients go home with a detailed post-operative rehabilitation plan which has been devised by our physiotherapy nurse Holly Loynd. We also strongly recommend hydrotherapy and have a program supervised by our hydrotherapy nurse Hollie O’Brien.
